In my husband´s paternal home village of Dorio in Messinia near Kalamata, Southern Greece. A sleepy village, road town in a lovely fertile valley surrounded by mountains. It has amazing clear skies in summer, with great walks and biking. 15 mins away you can watch the Karetta turtle lay their eggs, a or watch the young leave the nests (protected beach at Kalo Nero , Kiparisia). A really wild coastline (Western Peloponnese) with a 10 kms stretch where the Karetta turtles visit every year between May and Sept. Luckily there is an NGO giving a handat protectingthe nests from wild foxes, dogs, curious tourists. You can join a free beach night tour. It is amazing to think that the female turtles will only come back to their birthground 30 years after hatching out of the egg. They remember where home is, but it takes them 30 years to return, once they turn to fertile age. NATURE IS ASTOUNDING, AND DESERVES ALL MY RESPECTS.
